Thriller Joins Top US History Trove

It's the first music video to make the National Film Registry

(NEWSER) - Michael Jackson has scored another posthumous honor: The Library of Congress has selected his "Thriller" video to be among the 25 films added this year to the National Film Registry. It's the first music video to make the cut. Other honorees include The Muppet Movie, Dog Day Afternoon, Pillow Talk, and a 1972 effort by then-NYU student Martin Brest called Hot Dogs for Gauguin. Only-known audio of ex-slaves also joins National Recording Registry

(AP) - America's archived history just got a little noisier: 25 sounds that shaped the American cultural landscape are being inducted into the National Recording Registry. The additions are being announced today by the Library of Congress. Among them:

• A handful of pop/rock songs: Donna Summer's 1977 hit "I Feel Love" (selected in advance of her death); the Grateful Dead's famous 1977 Barton Hall concert; Sugarhill Gang's "Rapper's Delight" from 1979; and Prince's "Purple Rain."

Paris wears replica of dad's 'Thriller' jacket at Michael Forever

Proceeds will help care for Jackson's two tigers

(AP) - Just days after the anniversary of his death, a famed black-and-red calfskin jacket that Michael Jackson wore in the classic Thriller video has sold at auction for $1.8 million. The jacket is one of two Jackson wore during the filming of the 1983 Thriller video. The buyer is Texas commodities trader Milton Verret, who says it will be sent on tour and used as a fundraising tool for children's charities.
