(NEWSER) - Looks like another top al-Qaeda leader has gone down: A US drone in Pakistan reportedly killed Ilyas Kashmiri, who is variously described as the "military brain" of al-Qaeda ( CNN ), a potential replacement for Osama in Laden ( AP ), and one of Pakistan's top militants ( BBC ). One caveat: The news hasn't been confirmed by US and Pakistani officials on the record, and false reports about Kashmiri's death came once before in 2009. (AP) - Pakistani intelligence officers say they have arrested Adam Gadahn, the American-born spokesman for al-Qaeda who was featured in a 25-minute video posted today calling for Muslim members of the armed services to carry out Fort Hood-style attacks. Speaking on condition of anonymity, two officers and a government official say Gadahn was arrested in the city of Karachi in recent days. More»

New Yorker Was 'Ready to Deliver Suicide Bomb'

His terrorist handler told him he needed more religious instruction

(NEWSER) - A Queens man who pleaded guilty to aiding al-Qaeda was ready and willing to deliver a suicide bomb for the terrorist organization, he revealed to investigators. His handlers told 26-year-old Bryant Neal Vinas, however, that he needed more "religious" training before he could carry out such a mission, he told officials in Belgium, where he is being held.
