But controversy erupted over the achievement, as Collins, who designed the paper plane, did not throw it himself but instead recruited a brawny 27-year-old college football quarterback named Joe Ayoob to do so. Ayoob now shares the record with Collins after launching the plane 226 feet and 10 inches inside an aircraft hangar, reports the Wall Street Journal . More»

He kept his hand shut with super glue

(NEWSER) - An Ohio man has set what is, if nothing else, the most enthusiastic world record of all time. James Peterson, 34, pumped his fist for 16 straight hours beginning at 11am Friday, using super glue to, in his words, "ensure I maintain perfect fist formation," the Akron Beacon Journal reports. A camera crew followed Peterson around as he traveled throughout Akron, at one point fist-pumping center stage in front of the Akron Aeros' fireworks display. More»

Guinness certifies November feat from American Garrett McNamara

(NEWSER) - American pro surfer Garrett McNamera has done something no other man alive has done: surfed a 78-foot wave and lived to tell of it. Guinness World Record has declared McNamera's wave the tallest ever surfed, topping the previous record, held by legendary surfer Mike Parson, by just one foot, the Daily Mail reports. McNamera caught the wave off the coast of Portugal back in November—it was reported as 90 feet tall at the time—but it wasn't certified as a record until yesterday. More»

New World Record: Longest Bridal Train

It's a crazy 1.85 miles long

(AP) - The bride who wears this gown will have to start her procession to the church about two miles away: The Guinness Book of World Records on Monday recognized a 1.85-mile-long ivory train on a silk and lace gown as the world's longest, beating the previous record held by a Dutch designer. Romania's Andree Salon fashion house spent 100 days creating it, armed with a team of 10 seamstresses. The lace was imported from France, while taffeta and other fabrics were purchased from Italy, costing a total of $7,364. More»
