In new book, ex-prez discusses Lewinsky, Yeltsin's drunken caper

(NEWSER) - Between 1993 and 2001, historian Taylor Branch met regularly with then-President Clinton for a series of taped interviews. The transcripts form the basis of a new book, The Clinton Tapes: Wrestling History with the President, to be released next week. USA Today got a look and singles out some highlights:

• Secret Service agents had to corral a drunk Boris Yeltsin trying to hail a cab on Pennsylvania Avenue—wearing only his underwear. The Russian leader, who was bunking at Blair House, told them he wanted a pizza.

(NEWSER) - Socks is no more. The First Cat of the Clinton White House died today at the age of 20, People reports. The feline, who had lived with Bill Clinton’s former personal secretary, Betty Curie, since leaving the White House, was put down after a bout with throat cancer. “Socks brought much happiness to Chelsea and us over the years,” the Clintons said in a statement. “We're grateful for those memories.” More»

Gregory Craig will advise Obama on legal issues

(NEWSER) - Barack Obama has chosen Gregory Craig, Bill Clinton’s lead impeachment trial lawyer, as White House counsel, Politico reports. Craig, 63, left the Hillary Clinton camp early in the primaries to support Obama, and knows his new boss well: He played John McCain in debate prep.
