(NEWSER) - Hackers went Facebook-phishing yesterday, nabbing the passwords of an undisclosed number of users, Reuters reports. Facebook is working to restore the site and has blocked accounts hit in what it believes was a ploy to spread future spam. Hackers broke into accounts, sending users’ friends emails that contained links to fake sites resembling the Facebook homepage; these sites asked visitors to log in, thereby giving up their passwords. Company alleges fraudulent trademark use in case; success hardly certain

(NEWSER) - Yahoo is suing a group of unidentified spammers who’ve sent emails claiming to be from the "Yahoo International Lottery Organization," soliciting personal information and sometimes money from purported lottery winners. Yahoo is seeking damages for fraudulent use of its trademarks, but it might prove hard to identify the scammers, especially if they’re located outside the US, PC World reports. More»

MySpace Wins Record $234M From Spammers

Two spammers sent nearly 750,000 messages to site members

(NEWSER) - MySpace has been awarded $234 million from spammers in what's believed to be the largest such judgment ever, AP reports. Women More Likely to Unfriend

(NEWSER) - Women are the less fair sex when it comes to social networking. Ladies are a little more likely to delete friends on sites like Facebook and Twitter than gentlemen are, and a lot more likely to keep their pages private, reports AFP . A Pew Research Center study found that 67% of women say they've deleted friends compared to 58% of men, and women are 19% more likely to set their profile to private. More»
