Alaska jet will have Wi-Fi hot spots for phones, laptops

(NEWSER) - Alaska Airlines will become the first US carrier to offer satellite-based Wi-Fi internet access to passengers, reports AP. The airline will install the wireless service on one 737 jet next spring with a view to outfitting the entire 114-plane fleet. American Airlines announced plans for internet access on some of its Boeing 767s, using an air-to-ground system relying on cellular towers to transmit the broadband signals. More»

(NEWSER) - An American Airlines pilot kicked Alec Baldwin off a plane today, and the reason smacks more of Kenneth than Jack Donaghy in 30 Rock terms. TMZ explains: Baldwin was playing a game of Words With Friends on his phone while the plane was at the gate. When the cabin door closed, he got into a tiff with a flight attendant who demanded he turn it off. After that, he got out of his seat and slammed the bathroom door so hard that the captain called back to find out what was going on and ordered Baldwin off the plane, according to passengers. More»

(NEWSER) - California's coffee shops were pioneers in providing free WiFi, but a growing number are starting to pull the plug. Some complain that laptop users taking up space and nursing a single drink all day are killing profits, while others want to keep a friendly vibe in their establishments by having customers spend their time talking, not typing.
