Heritage Auctions kept mum about the seller and winning bidder, and said it had "legal assurances" that the near-complete tyrannosaurus "was obtained legally." (NEWSER) - New York has long been home to some of the most expensive apartments in the world. But now the city that never sleeps is getting a new icon of excess—a $1 million parking spot, reports the New York Post . Buying it would be the same as paying a $115 ticket for illegal parking every day for 24 years, notes the paper. The 12-by-23-foot spot is located on East 11th Street inside a former eight-story parking garage, which was bought for $120 million and is now being turned into six luxury condos with inside parking. (NEWSER) - The Great Bambino's baseball jersey has knocked one out of the park. Babe Ruth's cotton No. 44 shirt grabbed a hefty $4.4 million at auction. The road jersey worn by the Sultan of Swat in the 1920s busted a record for sports memorabilia. The previous record-holder—the original rules for basketball—went for $4.3 million. Ruth's jersey sports "New York" in big blue letters across the chest, and "Ruth, G.H."—for Ruth, George Herman—in pink script along the back of the neckline, notes the New York Daily News . More»

$90M+ Manhattan Penthouse Sets Record

Mystery buyer snaps up One57 duplex

(NEWSER) - A mystery buyer has smashed a New York City record by shelling out more than $90 million for a duplex penthouse, reports the New York Times . The 10,923-square-foot property—with 23-foot ceilings—occupies the 89th and 90th floors of One57, a midtown residential building that is still under construction. Gary Barnett, president of Extell Development Company, has declined to reveal the exact price, but says it didn't break the $100 million barrier. More»
