(NEWSER) - Seven and a half tons of steel from the fallen World Trade Center towers returned to New York today, reconstituted as the bow of a newly launched Navy warship. The crew of USS New York stood at attention for a 21-gun salute as the $1 billion amphibious dock landing ship sailed past Ground Zero. Work continues to ID fragments, but what to do with them?

(NEWSER) - More than seven years after the September 11 attacks, meticulous work continues to identify the charred remains of those killed that day—including the hijackers. Less than 24 pounds of flesh and bone fragments linked to the terrorists are stored in undisclosed locations in New York and Virginia, Newsweek reports. Former Dover Air Force Base mortuary director speaks out

(NEWSER) - The 9/11 remains that ended up in a landfill could have been buried at sea instead: That's the plan some officials at the Dover Air Force Base mortuary pushed for, but their superiors in the military rejected it. "We fought the fight, but I had zero clout back then," says William D. Zwicharowski, who was then the mortuary's interim director. Karol Ann Keasler, 42, worked in World Trade Center

(AP) - Remains of another 9/11 victim have been identified. The New York City Chief Medical Examiner's Office said today it had identified remains of Karol Ann Keasler. She was 42 when she died in the terrorist attack a decade ago. She worked in the World Trade Center at investment bank Keefe, Bruyette & Woods Inc. More»

Dutch firm says towers supposed to evoke cloud

(NEWSER) - A Dutch architecture firm is apologizing for the design of a new luxury high-rise it announced last week, after people complained it was reminiscent of the exploding World Trade Center on 9/11, reports Reuters . Called The Cloud, the development in Seoul, South Korea, called for two white high-rises of 54 and 60 stories, joined 27 floors up by a 10-floor "pixelated" cloud containing gardens, a sky lounge, and other amenities. But to many, the lumpy, swollen connection high up between the buildings represented two explosions shockingly reminiscent of the Manhattan tragedy. More»
