(NEWSER) - A pair of helicopter crashes today in Afghanistan killed 14 US troops and civilian workers and injured at least 28 others. In the first crash, a helicopter went down in the west of the country after leaving the scene of a firefight with insurgents, killing 10 Americans—seven troops and three civilians working for the government. (NEWSER) - Above the Hudson River west of Manhattan, where a helicopter and a light plane fatally collided on Saturday, a pilot can have as many as a dozen other aircraft to monitor at busy moments. Flight instructors describe the river corridor as dangerous and tunnel-like, and government is once again facing calls to step in. Girl was being transported to Chicago hospital for seizure treatment

(AP) - A medical helicopter crashed in a Chicago suburb late last night, killing three crew members and a 13-month-old patient. The helicopter was headed to Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago from just outside the city when it went down minutes before midnight. A hospital spokeswoman said the little girl was being transported to the hospital because of epileptic seizures. More»

Pilot radioed about bad weather; police find crash site 2 hours later

(NEWSER) - A Maryland State Police Medevac helicopter crashed in bad weather early this morning, killing four of the five on board, the Washington Post reports. The crew was transporting two teenage car-crash victims to a hospital when air traffic controllers lost radio contact about 12:30am. Police found the crash site at 2am, and rushed the survivor, one of the accident victims, to a hospital. More»

Rescuers search for their own in Pacific Ocean

(NEWSER) - Three people are dead and one missing after a Coast Guard helicopter crashed during a training exercise in Hawaii last night, the Honolulu Advertiser reports. The Dolphin rescue chopper crashed into the water about 6 miles off of Sand Island in Honolulu. The cause is unclear. A massive search continued today for the fourth crew member, KHNL-TV notes. More»
