Military, royalty honor beloved bird with grand ceremony

(NEWSER) - We earlier reported on the plush world of Norway's Halden prison , where Anders Behring Breivik could end up. Today CNN tops that prison (which employs personal trainers) with what it calls the "world's nicest prison" and "the holiday version of Alcatraz." Also located in Norway, Bastoy Prison is, as you might expect, home to murderers and rapists. Here's what it's not home to: armed guards or fences. Man Sets Self on Fire Outside Breivik Trial

Police have yet to verify a connection between the act and the trial

(NEWSER) - The drama continues at the Anders Behring Breivik trial, though today the biggest scene took place outside the courthouse, where a man set himself on fire. Police do not believe the man has any connection with the trial. Police say he poured a flammable liquid onto himself and and set himself aflame outside the building's entrance. One video shows him running toward the security checkpoint with flames shooting up from his hat, reports the AP , yelling what sounded like "shoot me, it hurts." Man Hurls Shoe at Breivik, Hits Lawyer

Brother was victim of Norway attacks

(NEWSER) - An onlooker at the trial of Anders Behring Breivik launched a shoe at the admitted killer today, shouting, "Go to hell, go to hell, you killed my brother." The throw marked the first public interruption of the trial, Reuters notes, and it was met with applause, tears, and cries of "bravo." The shoe missed Breivik, instead hitting one of his lawyers; the incident briefly halted the hearing. More»

Dining-hall paintings show lighter side of Scream painter

(NEWSER) - The painter of The Scream was also an interior decorator of sorts: Edvard Munch painted a set of murals long displayed in the dining hall of an Oslo factory. Now, that canteen—currently owned by Kraft Foods—could be on its way to a sale, paintings included. Officials plan to keep an eye on the potential sale since the canteen is regarded as a national treasure; Kraft says it will make sure the paintings enter safe hands, the BBC reports. More»
