IBM Thinks Siri Is Spying, Bans It

(NEWSER) - IBM has banned employees from using Siri on its network, because it doesn't trust the iPhone digital assistant. On Monday, IBM's CIO told the MIT Technology Review that though employees are free to use their personal iPhone at work, it was having problems with apps posing security risks. (AP) - Apple, the world's most valuable company, is trumping skeptics once again by reporting blow-out iPhone sales. Apple says it sold 35 million iPhones in the quarter, almost twice as many as it sold a year ago and above analyst expectations. iPhone 5 Casing: Terminator's 'Liquidmetal'?

New alloy said to be stronger than titanium, but versatile

(NEWSER) - The new iPhone 5, coming this fall, may not go back in time to kill John Connor, but it could be made from Liquidmetal, at least according to the latest rumors. Unlike normal metals, which are crystalline, Liquidmetal is an alloy more like metallic glass, with the elasticity of plastics but two or three times harder than titanium. All of which could make the new iPhone much thinner and more durable, reports the Telegraph . Apple signed an exclusive deal with Liquidmetal Technologies in August 2010, believed to be in the $11 million to $20 million range. Next iPhone's Screen to Be 31% Bigger

Report from South Korea indicates it'll be 4.6 inches

(NEWSER) - Apple has started placing orders for screens for its next iPhone, and this time it's going big, according to a South Korean newspaper report picked up by Reuters . The new displays will be 4.6-inch "retina" displays, and the updated phone will launch sometime around the second quarter this year, the paper said. While Apple started the trend of smartphones with large touchscreens, its 3.5-inch screen has started to look diminutive next to offerings like Samsung's Galaxy Nexus' 4.65 inches. More»

Siri Sucks, Lawsuit Alleges

iPhone assistant 'at best a work-in-progress'

(NEWSER) - A disgruntled iPhone 4S user is suing Apple for its "misleading and deceptive" advertising of Siri. In real life, the plaintiff alleges, Siri will not help you learn to play guitar, find you a restaurant, or make an appointment with nearly the aplomb depicted in Apple's commercials. More often "Siri either did not understand what Plaintiff was asking, or, after a very long wait time, responded with the wrong answer," according to the lawsuit filed yesterday, which names Frank Fazio, "individually and on behalf of all others similarly situated," as the plaintiff.
