Wind gusts were predicted at 15 mph and high temperatures were in the 60s in a dry, remote part of the state where access has been tricky because there are few roads. Lower North Fork Fire has burned more than 3K acres

(NEWSER) - A wildfire in Colorado was still burning uncontrolled this morning after claiming the life of one person, the Denver Post reports. The 3,050-acre Lower North Fork Fire has also destroyed as many as 25 structures in the mountains west of Denver, and winds of up to 45mph will likely hamper fire crews today. High winds were also a factor as the fire spread yesterday, scorching 3,000 acres in hours. The blaze was sparked by a controlled burn set a week ago, which smoldered and reignited. More»

Views on race won't be an issue, white supremacist claims

(NEWSER) - A white supremacist in Idaho seeking to swap his white hood for a sheriff's badge says voters should look at his position on crime, not race. Shaun Winkler, who is the leader of the local White Knights of the KKK and has links to the Aryan Nation, hopes to beat the incumbent sheriff and a serving police officer to the Republican nomination, despite his lack of any law enforcement experience.
