(NEWSER) - If you rely on critics for your movie-viewing choices, just flip a coin on Angelina Jolie's new save-the-world thriller, Salt. They're about evenly split:

• Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle : "When exploited properly—as Salt does, keeping her human and vulnerable, so that the character's amazing ability and ingenuity continue to surprise—this thing that Jolie does is, well, very cool. Making us believe in the woman who can do anything, and I mean anything, is Jolie's distinct contribution to today's cinema."
• Wesley Morris, Boston Globe : "Salt appears to have been assembled in the same food processor as most mainstream action films. So much of its fights and chases share a generic sameness both in their sloppy construction and where they’re situated."

She's the first woman to be a bankable star in the genre

She's starred in five action movies over the past 10 years that have grossed a total of $1.5 billion worldwide, which helps explains why she commanded a salary of $20 million upfront for Salt, plus a cut of the gross. (NEWSER) - Liberal politicians in Britain are demanding that advertisers stop altering stars' images, including enhancing Keira Knightley's bust and trimming the muscle from Madonna's arms, reports the Independent. Such alternations put more pressure on teen girls already mortified about their looks, say Liberal Democrats, who are pushing for a bill banning enhancements of photos of people in ads aimed at teens. Image of 'forbidden Italian temptation' sparks UK furor

(NEWSER) - An ice-cream ad showing a priest and a nun apparently about to lock lips has been banned in the UK after readers complained, the Daily Telegraph reports. People told an advertising-standards group that the magazine image, promoting Antonio Federici gelato, demeaned those who pursued a “religious vocation.” The standards group agreed that the ad might offend.
