Authorities say there was never a threat to safety

(NEWSER) - A US Airways flight from Paris to North Carolina was diverted to Maine after a woman claimed to have a device implanted in her body. Authorities have since determined that she posed "basically no threat," but the flight was halted "out of an abundance of caution," according to the TSA. (NEWSER) - To mark the 32nd year of Nude Recreation Week, TripAdvisor has put together a list of the top five nude events worldwide, Reuters reports:

1. World Naked Bike Ride, worldwide, June and July: Riders, advocating cycling over driving, often paint messages on their bodies.
2. World Record Skinny Dip, across North America, July: This event, hosted by the American Association for Nude Recreation, made “largest number of people skinny dipping at once” a Guinness Book category. The number? More than 12,000.

Salmonella outbreak prompts cautionary ban on sliced garnish

(NEWSER) - McDonald’s is pulling sliced tomatoes from its sandwiches following a nationwide outbreak of salmonella linked to the fruit. A spokesman was quick to note that the chain has not detected the bacteria in its supplies, “but with an abundance of caution, we want to make sure our food items containing tomatoes are absolutely safe," he told the Chicago Tribune.
