(NEWSER) - Anybody who's ever been gripped by regret seconds after hitting "Send" will like Gmail's new feature, Wired reports. "Undo Send" gives users a grace period—currently 5 seconds, although future updates will provide the option for 10 seconds—in which they can yank back emails that are being sent to the wrong person, or just shouldn't have been sent at all. Officials' personal accounts may have been compromised

(NEWSER) - Those alleged Gmail hackers from China weren't messing around: They went after the White House, reports the Wall Street Journal . It remains unclear exactly who was targeted or whether any sensitive information was compromised, but the hackers were apparently hoping that high-ranking officials were conducting government business on their personal accounts. The practice is officially prohibited but generally considered to be widespread because private emails have more protection from official investigations and FOI requests. More»

(NEWSER) - Bad news for less than 0.08%, by Google's count, of Gmail users: Your account may have "vanished into the cloud," Engadget reports. Gmail users started reporting yesterday morning that they'd lost access to their inboxes—and that, by the time some of them were able to log back in, they had lost years' worth of emails, attachments, and chat logs. It appears a bug reset these accounts, and treated their owners as new users when they logged back in. More»

' Priority Inbox' designed to help make email more efficient

(NEWSER) - Google has a new Gmail tool to help users manage their inboxes. "Priority Inbox" splits the inbox into three categories: important messages, starred messages, and the rest. Priority Inbox's utility lies in the algorithms that determine which messages to automatically flag as "important" to you—it looks at which people you regularly respond to and which emails you delete, archive, or star.
