(NEWSER) - The owner of a tattoo parlor barred from setting up in a Los Angeles beachfront community is battling the ban in court, arguing it's a violation of free artistic speech. (NEWSER) - A Georgia couple is out on bond after being charged with illegally tattooing six of their children because the kids wanted to be more like them. "If I’m such a bad parent, then how come they brought the kids back right after I got out jail?" asked Patty Jo Marsh, arrested last week with Jacob Bartels for using a makeshift machine to tattoo small crosses on the hands of the six oldest kids —aged 10, 11, 11, 12, 15, and 17—in their blended family. Infected Tattoo Linked to Man's Death

He dies of blood clot 10 days after birthday present from lover

(NEWSER) - An infected tattoo has been linked to the death of a 35-year-old British man, a medical panel has determined. The man died of a blood clot in his lungs 10 days after receiving the tattoo, a birthday present from his girlfriend, on his right calf, reports the Telegraph. The lethal clot originated from a deep vein thrombosis in the leg. Doctors are uncertain if the clot was triggered directly by the tattoo or by the man's inaction due to severe infection pain. More»

Canadian artists trade artworks for flesh space

(NEWSER) - A growing number of Canadian artists are giving away art to fans who are willing to wear it permanently, the Globe & Mail reports. The art buffs get free prints and a tattoo, while artists put their work out there on human flesh. "When I say 'this is by a local artist' it's so much more punk rock," said one buyer who forked out $300 for a tattoo and got 12 prints for free. More»

'Police Gang' Probed in LA

Seven suspected members of 'Jump Up Boys' placed on leave

(NEWSER) - Seven deputies suspected of belonging to a "police gang" that supports street crime crackdowns backed by shootings have been suspended from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, according to officials. The so-called "Jump Up Boys" apparently operated like a squad within a squad, with members believed to sport similar tattoos and cheer on aggressive policing, investigators believe. Officials were alerted to the existence of the Jump Up Boys when a supervisor found a pamphlet for the crew that lauded shootings by cops, reports the Los Angeles Times.
