Michael Meehan says other theft victims get same treatment

(NEWSER) - Berkeley's police chief is in hot water for sending 10 officers to find his son's stolen phone—with four of them spending two hours each of overtime on the case. But Michael Meehan says anyone else would have received the same assistance, and anyway, it's the field supervisors who decide how to assign cases. The chief tells the Oakland Tribune that 11 officers investigated two other iPhone thefts and six officers took on the case of a stolen iPad. More»

Next iPhone's Screen to Be 31% Bigger

Report from South Korea indicates it'll be 4.6 inches

(NEWSER) - Apple has started placing orders for screens for its next iPhone, and this time it's going big, according to a South Korean newspaper report picked up by Reuters . The new displays will be 4.6-inch "retina" displays, and the updated phone will launch sometime around the second quarter this year, the paper said. While Apple started the trend of smartphones with large touchscreens, its 3.5-inch screen has started to look diminutive next to offerings like Samsung's Galaxy Nexus' 4.65 inches. More»

Have an AT&T Unlimited Plan? Not Anymore

(NEWSER) - Amid growing controversy over data "throttling" —in which smartphone users on so-called unlimited data plans risked seeing their speeds slowed dramatically—AT&T is taking a simple step: It's effectively ending unlimited data. The company is setting a cap of three gigabytes' usage, beyond which "unlimited" users will face throttling. The move narrows the difference between AT&T's unlimited plan and its tiered plan, which requires payment for use beyond three gigs, the Wall Street Journal notes. More»

Chris Brown Stole My iPhone: Fan

Singer allegedly furious after woman snapped photo

(NEWSER) - Another woman is leveling accusations against Chris Brown. One Christal Spann, 24, told police he stole her iPhone after she took a photo of him leaving a Miami Beach club last weekend. According to a police report, Brown "reached through his car window, snatched her phone from her hands, and said, 'B--ch! You ain’t going to put that on no website!'" While police have "an allegation and an open case ... there is no warrant for his arrest. We have not charged or accused him at this point," an officer tells the New York Daily News . Of course, if they do, that could spell trouble for Brown, who is still on probation. More»
