(NEWSER) - A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on charges of impersonating a physician's assistant and working in a Florida hospital's emergency room for a week, reports the Orlando Sentinel . Police say Matthew Scheidt dressed in a lab coats and surgical scrubs, conducted physical exams, and reportedly even gave CPR to a man suffering a heart attack. Scheidt told the hospital he was a 23-year-old physician's assistant from a nearby university, bragging that his mother was an executive at the company that owned the hospital and that he was a surgical assistant. (NEWSER) - Birgilio Marin-Fuentes drove himself to an Oregon hospital early Thursday morning because he was coughing and couldn’t sleep, and he almost made it—but he crashed his car into a pillar and wall in the medical center parking garage. After 20 minutes, police found him and started CPR, as another officer walked the approximately 125 feet into the emergency room to inform staff of the situation. But instead of coming out to help, staff members told the police officer to call 911 and wait for an ambulance to arrive. Marin-Fuentes eventually died, the AP reports. More»

Experts warn the signs of strain already show that the system is ill-equipped to deal with a full-scale outbreak. Collapsed runner's ambulance got lost

(NEWSER) - Earlier this month at the sweltering Chicago Marathon, the ambulance transporting the runner who died got lost, had to get directions from another ambulance, and eventually ended up in the wrong emergency room. The man was in full cardiac arrest when the ambulance arrived on the scene and was, according to one official, unresponsive the entire time, reports the Chicago Sun-Times. More»

'Psychopathic' Doctor Accused of Killing Patients

Australian doctor allegedly had to be restrained

(NEWSER) - An allegedly psychopathic doctor who tried to kill his own patients may finally lose his job in Australia after four years of complaints, the Courier & Mail reports. The doctor, whose name hasn't been released, killed at least two elderly patients by unplugging them in a hospital and had to be physically restrained from killing more, according to testimony before a government crimes commission. "It was really horrifying," a doctor said. "He was prepared to kill people if it saved his authority from being questioned." More»
