Customers paid big bucks for counterfeit products

(NEWSER) - Consumers around the world were bilked out of millions of dollars for counterfeit golf clubs in the biggest-ever eBay scam, reports the Times of London. The clubs, as well as clothing, accessories and passes for an airline lounge, were auctioned online from 2004-2008 by a criminal network involving crooks from Europe, China, Thailand and the US. The suspected ringleaders are currently on trial in London, though authorities believe many involved have escaped detection. More»

For $14,500, reStart offers therapy, socialization

(NEWSER) - The first US Internet addiction clinic has opened in Fall City, Wash. The Heavensfield Retreat Center offers “reStart,” a 45-day in-patient rehab program for Internet, video game, and texting addictions, LiveScience reports. Clients undergo talk therapy and social skills training, as well as feeding goats, raising chickens, and learning home maintenance work in an attempt to give them feelings of satisfaction that don’t involve being online. (NEWSER) - China darkened Google for 2 hours today over the site’s continued practice of returning results linking to foreign websites and “pornographic” content, the Financial Times reports. The Chinese government is unhappy that Google’s domestic website, Google.cn, allows users to search the entirety of the Internet.
