(NEWSER) - Quantum of Solace continued its Friday momentum and shattered the record for the best Bond weekend opening, Variety reports. Solace banked $70.4 million, topping Die Another Day's $47 million debut. Rounding out the weekend's top five: Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa ($36.1 million), Role Models ($11.7 million), High School Musical 3: Senior Year ($5.9 million), and Changeling ($4.2 million). More»

Quantum of Solace expected to score the series' grandest US opening ever

(NEWSER) - Quantum of Solace is poised to post the biggest opening weekend in James Bond franchise history, Variety reports. The blockbuster grossed $27 million in domestic box-office returns yesterday, when it opened in 3,451 theaters nationwide. The movie is expected to bank more than $60 million over the weekend, besting previous record-holder Die Another Day by $13 million. More»

(NEWSER) - Daniel Craig is cutting the camp in his latest turn as super-spy James Bond. In the new 007 film, Quantum of Solace, Craig doesn't instruct a bartender on how to make his cocktail, and there's no "Bond, James Bond" introduction, USA Today reports. "I'm as big a fan as anybody of all his catchphrases and the martini," he said. "But I want to find a new way of doing them." More»

(NEWSER) - James Bond is no longer exclusively a martini man: The super-spy will be swilling Heineken in at least one scene in upcoming 007 flick Skyfall, according to a surprising report from Advertising Age. It's part of an advertising push by the beer maker; Daniel Craig's Bond will also star in a Heineken ad and appear on packaging for the beer. Craig isn't about to jump ship over the change, telling the BBC that he'll "keep going until they tell me to stop. I know there'll be someone after me, and hopefully someone after them—I'm just trying to keep (the series) going." More»
