(NEWSER) - Stocks rallied today on signs of a turnaround for US manufacturing, the Wall Street Journal reports. Improved manufacturing report lifts indices

(NEWSER) - Stocks kicked the second quarter off strong today as good manufacturing news lifted confidence, the Wall Street Journal reports. Stocks initially fell after a worse-than-expected jobs report, but rose after an index had March manufacturing as better than February’s, though still signaling contraction. (NEWSER) - Stocks posted losses today as news that US unemployment hit 7.2% moved the markets to the finish of a dismal week, MarketWatch reports. The Dow lost 143.28 to close at 8,599.18, with losses perhaps limited because investors were expecting the bad jobs news. (NEWSER) - Stocks failed to hold on to session highs but made gains today amid a series of dismal, if not unexpected, economic reports. Oil futures ended a four-day rally, falling $0.23 to $48.59 a barrel after briefly topping $50, Marketwatch reports. The Dow added 62.21 points to close at 9,015.
