Mary Kennedy, 52, had battled drug and alcohol abuse

(AP) - Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s estranged wife, Mary Richardson Kennedy, who had fought drug and alcohol problems, was found dead in her home near New York City today. Attorney Kerry Lawrence, who had represented her in a drunken-driving case, said he didn't know the cause of her death at age 52. An autopsy was scheduled for tomorrow. The former Mary Richardson married Robert Kennedy Jr., a prominent environmental lawyer and the son of Sen. Robert F. Kennedy and nephew of President John F. Kennedy, in 1994. President who signed DOMA backs NY bill

(NEWSER) - The president who signed the Defense of Marriage Act is now campaigning to legalize gay marriage in New York. Bill Clinton released a statement through Human Rights Campaign today backing the bill currently being considered in his home state, Politico reports. “Our nation’s permanent mission is to form a ‘more perfect union’—deepening the meaning of freedom,” Clinton said. “Now we should do it again, in New York, with marriage equality.” More»

Paterson Fined $62K for Freebie Series Tickets

But of course he intended to pay all along

(NEWSER) - David Paterson had better save his pennies: New York's soon-to-be unemployed governor has been slapped with a $62,125 fine for taking five free tickets to last year's World Series. Paterson maintains he always intended to pay for the tickets—though he didn't quite get around to it until the New York Post started snooping around—but the state's Commission on Public Integrity wasn't buying, reports the New York Times. The Yanks, the commission notes, have “myriad and continuing” issues in front of Albany, creating one of those pesky conflicts of interest. More»
