Well-to-do buyers weren't immune to wacky loans, and they're coming due

(NEWSER) - The country's most expensive homes are now making up a larger segment of foreclosures in the most recent spike of mortgage defaults. An analysis of recent data shows that 30% of June foreclosures involved homes valued in the top third based on location; that’s up from just 16% at the beginning of the crisis. “The slope of that curve in recent months is much sharper than it was recently,” an economist tells the Wall Street Journal. Chain plans to open 80 temporary stores in time for holiday shopping season

(NEWSER) - Toys R Us is getting ready to go on the offensive in the battle for holiday sales, the Washington Post reports. The company—which snapped up the KB Toys and FAO Schwarz brands earlier this year—plans to open 80 temporary "Holiday Express" stores in malls across the country, and will open toy shops in 260 of its Babies R Us locations. Obama Housing Rescue Plan Leaves Many Out in Cold

Criteria keep many who need help from refinancing under the plan

(NEWSER) - A large swath of Americans will see no help under the Obama administration’s housing rescue plan, the New York Times reports. While designed to prevent 3 million to 4 million foreclosures through loan modifications, the plan doesn't cover those whose loans aren’t backed by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac, or those who owe more than their home’s value on loans more than $729,750 through other lenders.
