(NEWSER) - GM has selected an unnamed investor to buy its hulking Hummer brand, in a move aimed at saving more than 3000 US jobs, sources tell the Wall Street Journal. They say the company hopes to seal the deal, rumored to be in the $200 million range, by September. An official spokesman declined to give any announcement, saying only that GM is "working through the final details of an agreement." More»

Reworked car could be Detroit's savior

(NEWSER) - General Motors hopes to muscle its way back from the brink of bankruptcy by reintroducing the Chevrolet Camaro, a macho stud-machine that is flexed to impress, Joseph Szczesny writes in Time. “The new Camaro goes well beyond the old-fashioned ‘Detroit iron’ of the 1960s and '70s,” writes Szczesny, who test-drove the growler and praises its blend of brains and brawn. (NEWSER) - General Motors' goal of taking on the Camry and Accord got a boost today as the Chevy Malibu won North American Car of the Year at Detroit’s auto show, CNNMoney.com reports. Its Corvette-inspired twin-cockpit design, and a body shape similar to European luxury cars, has already won media accolades. Ford Workers Ratify Pact With UAW

All three big automakers have now finalized deals

(NEWSER) - UAW workers at Ford overwhelmingly approved a four-year contract today that shifts responsibility for some retiree health benefits to the union, the Detroit Free Press reports. The agreement also allows Ford to hire new employees for lower wages and fewer benefits. The contract approval follows similar deals at GM and Chrysler, though Ford was the only one of the three to avoid a strike. More»
