(NEWSER) - With an eye to newly frugal consumers, Best Buy is offering refurbished iPhone 3Gs for about $50 less than new handsets, Reuters reports. The retailer offers previously owned 8- and 16-gigabyte iPhones (returned in 30 days or less) for $149 and $249, respectively. Best Buy may be trying to undercut Wal-Mart, which started selling the iPhone 3G models last month for $197 and $297, slightly below Best Buy’s price for a new handset. More»

(NEWSER) - Even apparently recession-proof Apple is now beginning to show signs of strain, and some analysts are predicting a major slowdown for the computer giant next year, the Wall Street Journal reports. US sales of Macs last month declined 1% over a year ago, while PC sales rose 2%. One analyst cut his estimate for Apple's 2009 profit, warning of difficult times ahead. More»

IBM Thinks Siri Is Spying, Bans It

(NEWSER) - IBM has banned employees from using Siri on its network, because it doesn't trust the iPhone digital assistant. On Monday, IBM's CIO told the MIT Technology Review that though employees are free to use their personal iPhone at work, it was having problems with apps posing security risks. She said Siri in particular was off-limits because they're "worried that the spoken queries might be stored somewhere." More»

Apple Beats Expectations Again, Sells 35M iPhones

Earnings nearly doubled from a year ago

(AP) - Apple, the world's most valuable company, is trumping skeptics once again by reporting blow-out iPhone sales. Apple says it sold 35 million iPhones in the quarter, almost twice as many as it sold a year ago and above analyst expectations.
