(NEWSER) - As Republican resistance to the $14 billion auto-industry bailout mounted, proponents flogged today's dismal unemployment figures to bolster their case, Politico reports. Mitch McConnell abandoned the White House, which continued to push the bill; the Senate minority leader unexpectedly said the measure "promises taxpayer money today for reforms that may or may not come tomorrow," The Hill reports. Chrysler, VW saw huge gains

(NEWSER) - Americans may be worried about the economy, but they still need to get where they’re going. Auto sales beat expectations last month, rising 14% to 994,721, their fastest sales pace since August 2009, reports the AP . Chrysler led the pack: The automaker’s sales jumped 45%, Reuters reports. Close behind was Volkswagen, whose sales soared 41%; Hyundai, Nissan, and Ford also saw double-digit gains. More»

(NEWSER) - American automakers scored higher marks on quality than their foreign rivals for the first time since the JD Power survey began in 1986, the Detroit Free Press reports. A dozen Ford models ranked in the top three in their segments, making it the highest-ranked automaker overall. Ford's namesake brand ranked fifth, and General Motors had 10 brands in the top vehicle rankings. More»
