(NEWSER) - This Is Spinal Tap actor Michael McKean was seriously injured yesterday when he was struck by a car on Manhattan's Upper West Side. The vehicle barreled into him as he was crossing the street, according to witnesses. “He’ll be OK, hopefully he’ll be fine,” said a spokeswoman. "It's pretty devastating." McKean, 62, broke his leg in the accident and suffered cuts and abrasions to his head. McKean's wife, actress Annette O’Toole, was flying from Los Angeles to be with her husband. McKean was to appear last night on Broadway in Gore Vidal's The Best Man. More»

Mystery buyer snaps up One57 duplex

(NEWSER) - A mystery buyer has smashed a New York City record by shelling out more than $90 million for a duplex penthouse, reports the New York Times . The 10,923-square-foot property—with 23-foot ceilings—occupies the 89th and 90th floors of One57, a midtown residential building that is still under construction. Gary Barnett, president of Extell Development Company, has declined to reveal the exact price, but says it didn't break the $100 million barrier. More»

Twitter Fights to Protect Tweets at Protester Trial

Users have rights to all content, company argues

(NEWSER) - Twitter is fighting a subpoena demanding tweets of an Occupy protester on trial in Manhattan. The outcome of the battle could have a major impact on tweeters' privacy. The company is arguing that Twitter has no claim on a user's communication, and therefore has no right to turn them over to a court. Prosecutors are seeking three months of tweets written by protester Malcolm Harris, who was busted on the Brooklyn Bridge last year along with 700 other Occupy activists. Harris filed his own motion to quash the subpoena, contending there's "no justification" for access to "such a broad swath of electronic data." But the judge threw out the motion, ruling that the tweets don't belong to him and he has no standing to fight for them. More»
