Massive killings by 'Crowbusters' have even hunting groups concerned

(NEWSER) - They are the "Crowbusters," a group of bird-killing fanatics in Germany that dresses in paramilitary gear and uses military-grade weapons to kill as many crows as possible, reports Der Spiegel . The reason for the massive attacks on crows, according to the Crowbusters, is that crows are "feathered vermin" and "crap-scratchers" that have grown too populous, crowding out and killing other creatures, such as rabbits and partridges. Just one hunt in northwestern Germany brought down 333 birds; another in Bavaria saw 316 killed. More»

Man Dressed as Santa Drugs 9th Victim at Market

Girl, 15, may have been given date rape drug

(NEWSER) - A ho-ho-horrible story out of Berlin, where police say a man dressed as Santa drugged a teenager Saturday night at a Christmas market. The suspect offered the 15-year-old girl and her friend a shot of alcohol; the friend refused, but the victim drank both and soon began vomiting. Police say she was apparently given a date rape drug, the AP reports; she was hospitalized and released. Eight other people have recently been left ill or unconscious after similar attacks at Christmas markets in the city, although the suspect is usually dressed normally. More»

Cops Thwart Firebomb Attack on Berlin Station

Leftists demand end to Afghan war, call for Bradley Manning release

(NEWSER) - Police thwarted a firebomb attack on Berlin's central train station yesterday after a worker discovered several incendiary devices hooked up to detonators. The planned attack was claimed by a leftist group protesting Germany's involvement in the Afghan war and demanding the release of suspected WikiLeaks source US Private Bradley Manniing. The discovery of the bombs followed an arson fire near signalling equipment between Berlin and Hamburg that disrupted travel for thousands of passengers.
