Lyralisa Stevens sues for surgery to move to safer women's prison

(NEWSER) - A murderer is suing California, demanding the state pay for her sex change operation and move her from a men's prison to a safer women's prison. The state has provided Lyralisa Stevens, who lives as a female, with sex hormones since 2003 when she began a 50 year-to-life sentence for shooting a woman in a dispute over clothing. But officials say they are not responsible for financing and arranging an operation to remove her male genitalia. Stevens has had silicone injections in her hips and breasts, and is in constant fear of attack, according to the suit. Mom died of water intoxication in effort to win Wii for her kids

(NEWSER) - A Sacramento radio station has been ordered to pay $16 million to the family of a woman who died during its "Hold Your Wee for a Wii" contest. The woman, who was trying to win the game console for her three children, died of water intoxication after taking part in the contest to see who could drink the most water without urinating or vomiting, the Sacramento Bee reports. Calif. panel rules dismissal amounts to discrimination

(NEWSER) - Firing an employee for breastfeeding during her break amounts to sex discrimination, California’s Fair Employment and Housing Commission ruled last week, awarding her $41,645 in damages, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. (NEWSER) - A group of Facebook users has sued the social networking company for violating consumer privacy laws by harvesting personal information for commercial purposes and failing to compensate clients, reports CNET. "Plaintiffs and the general public desire and expect a level of privacy, which Facebook has failed to satisfy," states the California lawsuit, which includes two children, a model, photographer and actress.
