But Bob Woodward says book omits key interview

(NEWSER) - Bob Woodward is not happy about a new book in which former Washington Post editor Ben Bradlee appears to express doubt about the legend of "Deep Throat." Bradlee gave reporter Jeff Himmelman access to a box of old documents, and in it, Himmelman found an interview Bradlee had conducted for his memoir, but never used. "Did that potted [plant] incident ever happen? … and meeting in some garage. One meeting in the garage? Fifty meetings in the garage?" Bradlee wondered. "There’s a residual fear in my soul that that isn’t quite straight." The quote was published in an excerpt in New York yesterday. More»

Nixon 'dirty tricks artist' converted to evangelical Christianity

(NEWSER) - Notorious political "hatchet man" and prison reform advocate Chuck Colson has died at age 80 outside of Washington, DC. Renowned as a "dirty tricks artist" for President Nixon, Colson underwent a religious conversion in 1973 when facing charges for his role in discrediting Pentagon whistleblower Daniel Ellsberg. After 7 months in prison, the man who once boasted that he would "walk over my own grandmother" to ensure Nixon's reelection devoted his life to prison reform and evangelical Christianity, the Washington Post reports.
