(NEWSER) - After steadily dropping for a decade, the US teenage sex rate leveled off in 2001 and has stalled there since, according to a government study. School Backs Free Condoms for Kids 12 and Up

Massachusetts measure would include counseling

(NEWSER) - In a 5-1 preliminary vote, a school committee for a Massachusetts town has approved providing free condoms to students ages 12 and older. The service, which requires a second vote for final approval, would provide the condoms through Springfield school nurses and clinics. Those given the contraceptives would receive counseling in abstinence and how to use the condoms safely. Parents would be allowed to opt out of the service for their children, the Republican reports. "We can’t stick our heads in the sand any more," said the committee's vice-chair. More»

(NEWSER) - Will men take it? Will women believe men are taking it? However this unfolds, the male contraceptive pill may be only a decade away, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Researchers at the University of Kansas are so confident about their male contraceptive pill that they're ready to seek FDA approval to test it on humans. So far their compound has proven safe in rats, rabbits, mice, and monkeys. "It's 100% effective and 100% reversible," says biologist Joseph Tash. More»
