Colo. governor taps Bennet to serve out Senate term

(NEWSER) - Bill Ritter has chosen Michael Bennet to fill the US Senate seat vacated by Ken Salazar, President-elect Obama’s choice for secretary of the Interior, the Denver Post reports. Bennet, superintendent of the Denver public school system, reportedly was an education secretary candidate. Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper had sought to succeed Salazar but was passed over in favor of Bennet, his former chief of staff. Ritter is expected to announce his choice tomorrow. More»

Artist aims to install fabric panels over 42-mile stretch of Colo. river

(NEWSER) - After 18 years and $7 million, the artist Christo has won federal approval for his controversial plan to wrap a 42-mile stretch of Colorado's Arkansas River. The New York-based artist, known for his larger-than-life outdoor projects, aims to install 5.9 miles of fabric in segments over the river, the New York Times reports. The Bureau of Land Management gave the project the green light after Christo, 76, submitted an environmental impact proposal and agreed to over 100 measures to mitigate its impact on wildlife, traffic, and safety. John Troy Davis made calls to Sen. Michael Bennet's staff

(USER SUBMITTED) - A Colorado man has been arrested for allegedly threatening Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet's staff two days before Gabrielle Giffords was shot in Arizona. John Troy Davis had frequently called Bennet's Denver office wanting help with his Social Security benefits, but in a call last Thursday, he threatened to "come down there and shoot you all," according to an FBI affidavit filed in federal court Friday. Davis admitted to the staff that he was a schizophrenic and added that he "may go to terrorism" and threatened to "go down there and set fire to the perimeter." More»
