The privately owned estate spreads across 50,000 acres and has been in the royal family since 1848, when Queen Victoria snapped it up. Reign surpasses that of King George III today

(AP) - Queen Elizabeth II has become the second-longest reigning monarch in the last 1,000 years of British royal history. The queen today passes King George III in terms of total days served. She has been queen for 21,645 days, to the 21,644 days George racked up between 1760 and 1820. Elizabeth II is now second only to Queen Victoria. The 85-year-old queen would surpass Victoria's length of service in September 2015. More»

First royal to compete in race runs as part of human caterpillar

(NEWSER) - Princess Beatrice became the first member of the British royal family to complete the London Marathon today—and even helped set a record. The 21-year-old daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson was part of the largest group ever to complete a marathon while linked together, the Telegraph reports. Bungee cords connected Beatrice, who ran to raise money for the Children in Crisis relief agency, and 33 other people wearing black clothing and fluorescent-green tutus. More»

'Gerontophile' attacked women as old as 93

(NEWSER) - A Londoner has been busted for a host of crimes, including rape, targeting the elderly over the last 17 years. Delroy Grant, 52, appears in court today to face 11 charges of rape, burglary and indecent assault. But police believe he is responsible for some 108 crimes, striking as often as 5 times in a single night. Grant is charged with attacking victims from the age of 63 to 93. More»
