White Powder Sent to Wall Street Journal

(NEWSER) - White powder mailed to executives of the Wall Street Journal and to Harvard professor Alan Dershowitz is harmless, authorities say. Authorities have no suspects or motive, but the Journal notes that Dershowitz wrote an essay for the paper earlier this month defending Israel's assault on Gaza. Letter addressed to editorial editor

(NEWSER) - A New York Times employee found white powder inside an envelope earlier today, prompting police to evacuate that floor, close the office lobby, and ask three workers to bag their clothing and shower, the paper's City Room reports. The letter was addressed to editorial page editor Andrew Rosenthal. The newspaper had a similar scare in October 2001, but that substance tested harmless. More»

Killer, major bank named in NY lawsuit

(NEWSER) - Mariane Pearl, widow of the Wall Street Journal reporter who was beheaded in 2002, has filed a suit in New York against Al-Qaeda for Daniel Pearl's "senseless kidnapping, torture and murder." Somali-born brothers overheard discussing methods and targets

(NEWSER) - Danish intelligence officials say they've arrested two brothers who were plotting an unspecified terrorist attack. The brothers, ages 18 and 23, were born in Somalia, but have spent most of their lives in Denmark and are Danish citizens. Authorities say they were overheard discussing methods, targets, and types of weaponry for an attack. One allegedly attended an al-Shabab training camp in Somalia, the AP reports. More»

Terror boasts were replaced with info on civilian deaths

(NEWSER) - Al-Qaeda has issued a call for "electronic jihad," but it looks like the terror group has been outgunned by State Department experts. Hillary Clinton, speaking at the Special Operations Command gala dinner last night, said that American specialists had hacked into al-Qaeda sites in Yemen that "bragged about killing Americans," ABC reports. "Within 48 hours, our team plastered the same sites with altered versions of the ads that showed the toll al-Qaeda attacks have taken on the Yemeni people," she said. More»
