Actor's 11 nominations more than double previous 1-year record

(NEWSER) - Adam Sandler dominated like no other would-be thespian that bane of awards season, the Razzie Awards nominations, pulling in 11 nods as an actor, writer, and producer, reports the LA Times . Among the lowlights this year:

• Sandler's 11 nominations are more than twice as many as anyone else ever scored in a single year (Eddie Murphy, who got five for Norbit)."It's almost karmic for someone to have made that much razz-able stuff in one year,'' said Razzies' founder John Wilson. "He has angered someone really powerful, I would say.''
• Sandler's Jack and Jill led the way for films with 12 Razzie nods. But he also picked up nominations for Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star and Just Go With It.

Nolan, Sorkin take home top screenwriting honors

(AP) - The sci-fi smash Inception and Facebook drama The Social Network took top screenplay honors last night at the Writers Guild Awards. Inception writer Christopher Nolan won for best original screenplay and The Social Network writer Aaron Sorkin won for best adapted screenplay. The Social Network, was the heavy favorite Sorkin adapted from the Ben Mezrich book The Accidental Billionaires. But the original screenplay category was considered a toss-up between Inception, the psychosexual thriller Black Swan, and the boxing drama The Fighter because current awards-season darling The King's Speech was not eligible for a WGA award as it was not made under the writing union's contract guidelines. (NEWSER) - The Social Network got a lot of love this morning as the Golden Globe nominations were announced, but British monarchy tale The King's Speech was the biggest hit with seven nominations. The Social Network and The Fighter followed with six nominations each, the AP reports. Among the more shocking nominees: Oft-mocked Jennifer Love Hewitt for best actress in a TV miniseries (The Client List), and critically-panned Burlesque and The Tourist for best movie comedy or musical.
