S&P, Nasdaq follow suit

(NEWSER) - The Dow plunged more than 300 points at the open today, and dropped almost 500 before retreating, as investors worried about Europe and the global economy. It's currently hovering just below 11,000, according to Marketwatch . The S&P 500 also dropped 48 points to 1,146, while the Nasdaq fell 115 points to 2,397. S&P 500, Nasdaq also rise

(NEWSER) - Markets are up, at least for now: The Dow was up more than 100 points at open, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq following suit, up about 11 and 13 points, respectively, MarketWatch reports. An upbeat report on retail sales no doubt prodded stocks upward: July sales rose a seasonally adjusted 0.5%, their biggest gain in four months. Currently the Dow is hovering in the 11,200 range. (NEWSER) - Good earnings reports and stellar performance by General Electric had markets at 2009 highs for a time today, the Wall Street Journal reports. “We have gotten so close to the S&P 1,000 level, you just sort of sense that unless there’s a horrible GDP number tomorrow, we’re going to have to go up and challenge this thing,” a strategist says. The Dow was up 83.74 to 9,154.46. The S&P gained 11.60 to end at 986.75. And the Nasdaq rose 16.54 to 1,984.30. More»

(NEWSER) - Stocks headed lower at the open today, thanks to another round of dour corporate earnings. The Dow fell 44 points, while the S&P and Nasdaq dropped 0.9% and 0.8% respectively. Morgan Stanley tumbled more than 8%, after reporting a quarterly loss, and slashing its dividend. Wells Fargo, on the other hand, reported a 52% income jump, but its shares were still off 2%. In a bad sign for consumer credit, Capital One reported a loss, sending shares down 8%. More»
