The airline apologized for the blunder, saying the wrong food canisters had been supplied, the Daily Mail reports. "I think they need a lesson or two on cultural awareness if they expand their routes into the Middle East," said one passenger. Background noise diminishes sense of taste

(NEWSER) - Airline food is notoriously bland because of engine noise, not a lack of spice, according to new research. Volunteers who ate sweet or salty foods while listening to silence through headphones found the flavors more intense than a group of volunteers who heard white noise. The latter group found the flavors much blander, and the food crunchier. Researchers say the experiment confirmed their hunch that background noise affects people's sense of taste. More»

Virgin says feds threatened arrests if passengers got off

(NEWSER) - Well somebody's lying: Virgin Atlantic says it had to keep passengers on a hot airplane for 4 hours on the tarmac because a Customs official demanded it, reports AP . The pilot says he called upon landing at the Connecticut airport and was told passengers would be arrested if they disembarked because there weren't enough immigration officials on duty. A Customs spokesman denies it and says no request was made to let the passengers out. More»

Airline with no assigned seats starts charging for first dibs

(NEWSER) - Southwest Airlines doesn’t assign seats, but now it will start charging for the privilege of finding the best one, the Dallas Morning News reports. For an extra $10, the new “EarlyBird Check-in” allows passengers to board first, or at least right after the Business Select and Rapid Rewards A-List customers. More»
