Suspect Fernando Porras' 17-year-old daughter called 911 after her mother said the cereal smelled and tasted awful. It had been doused with the household cleaner Goof Off, according to investigators. (NEWSER) - A sad new twist in the case of a California couple that was murdered last year: Warrants show their 9-year-old boy hid behind a couch during stabbing. The child apparently ran to get his mother's purse to appease the attacker, but hid in the living room after hearing his mother scream, reports the AP . Wounded in chest, stomach, boy hid in trash bin

(NEWSER) - A gravely wounded 3-year-old boy hid in a garbage can for 12 hours after his father fatally shot his mom, then killed himself, according to law enforcement authorities. Police followed a trail of blood to the trash can where they found the boy bleeding from 3 gunshot wounds to his shoulder, stomach and chest. His parents lay dead on lawn chairs outside the Anaheim home, and his uninjured 5-year-old brother was hiding elsewhere in the house. Suspect Killed in Court After Stabbing Judge

Accused murderer attacked justice during recess in Calif. trial

(NEWSER) - An accused killer jumped up and stabbed the judge presiding over his trial before a detective shot him dead in a California courtroom, Recordnet.com reports. David Paradiso was on trial for the stabbing death of his girlfriend. After the judge called for a recess, he attacked her “with an unknown cutting weapon,” police said, slicing her left arm. (NEWSER) - A 17-year-old suspected rape victim is being held in a California juvenile detention facility to ensure that she'll show up to testify against her attacker. She failed to turn up at a preliminary hearing for her suspected assailant, forcing prosecutors to refile the case. “The last thing we ever want to do is put a victim or a witness in custody, but when you have serious crimes of violence and multiple offenses, you have to balance the protection of the community,” Sacramento County assistant district attorney tells ABC News.
