(NEWSER) - The Anti-Defamation League is blasting Glenn Beck for accusing liberal philanthropist George Soros, who is Jewish, of helping Nazis send Jews to their death. Soros at the age of 14 "used to go around with this anti-Semite and deliver papers to the Jews and confiscate their property and then ship them off," said Beck this week. "Here’s a Jewish boy helping send the Jews to the death camps." He also called Soros "an atheist who doesn't embrace his Jewish identity." Beck referred to himself as "more supportive of Israel and the Jews than George Soros is.” Soros has discussed once accompanying a Hungarian official posing as his godfather as the man inventoried a house abandoned by fleeing Jews. German Court Fines Bishop for Holocaust Denial

Richard Williamson fails to show up

(NEWSER) - A German court has convicted a British bishop of inciting racial hatred and fined him $13,544 for denying the Holocaust in a 2009 TV interview. Richard Williamson wasn’t in the courtroom, the BBC reports. The court heard a tape of Williamson declaring that only “200,000 to 300,000 Jews perished in Nazi concentration camps,” and that no gas chambers were used. He can be heard telling the interviewer, “Be careful, this is against the law in Germany.” More»

Pope Defends Nazi-Era Vatican

Church helped Jews in 'hidden ways'

(NEWSER) - Pope Benedict yesterday defended the Vatican against criticism that it did little to challenge the Nazis during World War II, saying that the Catholic church helped Jews in "hidden" ways. "Unfortunately, many remained indifferent" to the suffering of the Jews, said the German pontiff. But the Vatican "itself provided assistance, often in a hidden and discreet way." His comments followed harsh criticism of the Vatican's silence during the Holocaust by the president of Rome's Jewish community, Riccardo Pacifici. More»

Mission to trace assets of murdered Jews facing resistance from Israeli government, businesses

(NEWSER) - The quest to return assets of Holocaust victims to their heirs, instigated by the Israeli parliament, is now focusing on Israel itself, the Wall Street Journal reports, and it's meeting as much resistance at home as it did in Europe. Many European Jews invested in what was then Palestine during the '20s and '30s, only to die at the hands of the Nazis before they could realize their dream of emigration.
