(Newser) – The stingy economy has forced the Girl Scouts to downsize their boxes of cookies, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. (NEWSER) - Everybody loves Girl Scout cookies, but not everybody loves them this much: A Florida woman is in jail on charges of beating up her roommate Sunday in a dispute over Thin Mints. Hersha Howard, 31, is accused of bursting into Jasmin Wanke’s room while she slept and accusing Wanke of eating her cookies. Howard then allegedly jumped on top of Wanke and hit her in the face, chased her with a pair of scissors, struck her with a board, bit her in the breast, then hit her with a sign she found outside. Howard was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, ABC-7 reports. More»

(NEWSER) - The Girl Scouts of America have hired a chief marketing officer to shake up their image and bolster dwindling membership, Brandweek reports. Laurel Richie helped make Huggies and Kotex into major brands; despite the famous cookies, Scouts number less than 3 million. Figures reveal first 'double-dip' recession since '70s

(NEWSER) - More bad news for Britain's beleaguered government: The country slid back into recession in the first quarter of this year, according to figures released today. The economy shrank for the second straight quarter, marking the first "double-dip" recession, in which GDP falls before output lost in the previous recession is recovered, since the mid-70s, Bloomberg reports. The British economy shrank 7.1% in the 2008-2009 recession and recovery since has been weak and fitful. More»

(NEWSER) - In Pittsburgh, they're calling it "CookieGate," but fair warning, it's not exactly a serious political scandal. Mitt Romney held a tax day picnic just outside the city Tuesday, in what should have been an easy photo op, if only he hadn't mentioned the food.
