Figure skating champ's body in LA motel, overdose suspected

(NEWSER) - Former US figure skating champion Christopher Bowman was found dead yesterday in a Los Angeles motel room, AP reports. Authorities suspect a drug overdose. Bowman, 40, won US figure skating titles in 1988 and 1992 and wowed the crowds at the 1988 and 1992 Winter Olympics. His flamboyant personality and exuberant performances won him the nickname "Bowman the Showman," but his life off the ice was troubled. More»

Kerrigan Plotter Dies at Age 40

Ex-bodyguard changed name, 'died a long time ago,' brother says

(NEWSER) - A plotter in the 1994 attack on skater Nancy Kerrigan died this week of natural causes at age 40, the AP reports. Brian Sean Griffith, ex-bodyguard to figure-skating Olympic hopeful Tonya Harding, confessed to helping organize the attack on Kerrigan days after it happened. Griffith served 14 months and later changed his name from Shawn Eckhardt to start a new life. More»

Police intercept another package containing severed hand

(NEWSER) - A gruesome mystery in Canada's capital: Police in Ottawa are investigating two severed body parts found in packages, reports the National Post . A blood-soaked foot was found in a package delivered to Conservative Party headquarters yesterday morning, and hours later, a severed hand was found in a package at a mail sorting office. Police won't say where the hand was to be sent, but it was not the Conservative Party. More»

Kids Missing Nearly 4 Years Found in Mexico

Father Kevin Maryk detained after raid in Guadalajara

(NEWSER) - Two Canadian kids missing for nearly 4 years were found living with their father in Mexico last week, the Winnipeg Free Press reports. On a tip, Interpol agents raided a house in Guadalajara and found Abby and Dominic Maryk, 8 and 10 respectively, living with father Kevin Maryk. The agents also found weapons, child pornography, and drugs in Maryk's home during the raid. Maryk and two other men have been detained. More»
