(AP) - A hundred years after the Titanic sank, two Swedish researchers say today that when it comes to sinking ships, male chivalry is "a myth" and more men generally survive such disasters than women and children. Economists Mikael Elinder and Oscar Erixon of Uppsala University also showed in their 82-page study that captains and their crew are 18.7 percentage points more likely to survive a shipwreck than their passengers. (NEWSER) - How’s this for marketing genius: Archeologists are reasonably certain they’ve discovered one of the lost ships of infamous privateer Henry Morgan—in an expedition financed in part by Captain Morgan rum. “There’s definitely an irony in the situation,” one archeologist tells Discovery News . Morgan lost five ships in his raid on Panama City in 1671, including his flagship. Now, divers have found the starboard hull of one of them near the Lajas Reef, along with some crates of cargo. 840,000 Gallons of Oil Leak Into Michigan River

Kalamazoo feeds into Lake Michigan

(USER SUBMITTED) - A pipeline that normally sends oil from Griffith, Indiana, to Sarnia, Ontario, Canada, sprang a leak Monday. What started in a small tributary has now reached the Kalamazoo River, and the oil—about 840,000 gallons spilled—could reach Lake Michigan this weekend. Surveyors Find Sunken WWI Battleship

Danton in top condition deep under Mediterranean

(NEWSER) - A French battleship famously sunk by Germans in World War I has been found in “extraordinary” condition on the Mediterranean Sea floor, the BBC reports. A geosciences firm came upon the Danton while surveying the waters between Italy and Algeria for a planned gas pipeline, set to be diverted to avoid the site. The ship sits upright, more than 3,200 feet below the surface, 22 miles southwest of Sardinia. More»
