(NEWSER) - The New York Times' ruling Ochs-Sulzberger family has a “habit of buying high and selling low,” writes John Gapper of the Financial Times. The clan sold the paper’s old Times Square building at a bargain price and bought back shares near their zenith. (NEWSER) - The world’s second-richest man, Mexican media tycoon Carlos Slim, has purchased a 6.4% stake in the New York Times Company. He says the buy was a purely financial—not strategic—move, but analysts say he may be positioning himself to make a play for the Gray Lady, reports Bloomberg. A Slim spokesman describes the struggling newspaper company as a “an attractive value,” adding, "The door is always open to assess whether we will buy more.'' More»

(NEWSER) - Sarah Palin is thrilled Rick Santorum blasted a question from the New York Times (ie, "lamestream media") as "BS." It "was good and it was strong, and it was about time because he's saying enough is enough of the liberal media twisting conservatives' words," Palin said of Santorum on Fox News . "I was like, welcome to my world, Rick. And good on ya. Don't retreat." Santorum went at reporter Jeff Zeleny for "distorting my words" when Zeleny questioned the candidate about calling Romney the "worst candidate to put up against" Obama. Editor says profile made victim's identity common knowledge

(NEWSER) - Pennsylvania's Patriot-News has led the way on reporting of the Jerry Sandusky rape allegations at Penn State, and now the paper is publicly calling out the New York Times in its handling of the story. Editor David Newhouse writes that a recent profile of "Victim One" in the Times all but identifies the victim by name. It provides enough clues that a quick Google search would yield the name, and now it's common knowledge among news organizations, he writes. More»
