(NEWSER) - Wasilla, Alaska, is about to become known for something other than Sarah Palin: vodka flavored with smoked salmon. The scary-sounding liquor is the brainchild of the Alaska Distillery, and there was “some madness and some drunkenness involved” in its creation, one partner tells the AP . “I was trying to think of something Alaskan. No drunk horseback riding in Colorado, and other weird rules

(NEWSER) - Growlers may be the new hipster trend , but good luck finding one in Alabama. Any beer bottle larger than 16 ounces is banned there, along with "sensuous" wine labels. That's just one of a dozen crazy liquor laws complied by Mother Jones :

• No sunrise mimosas in Alaska: you can't buy booze between 5am and 8am.
• Stay out of the driver's seat and the saddle if you've been imbibing in Colorado, where drunk horseback riding is illegal.

Because the 6th US Circuit Court of Appeals says so

(NEWSER) - This week, in unusual court rulings: Any liquor bottle topped with dripping red wax must be Maker's Mark, per the 6th US Circuit Court of Appeals. It ruled on Wednesday that the Kentucky-made bourbon is the only brand permitted to carry the distinctive seal. The AP reports that Diageo North America and Casa Cuervo of Mexico has been using a similar red seal on select bottles of its Reserva tequila, leading Maker's Mark to sue over the trademarked topper in 2003.
