(NEWSER) - This might top the infamous McDonald's hot coffee lawsuit. A court in Brazil has found the fast-food chain liable for the obesity of a franchise manager and ordered it to pay $17,500 in damages, the AP reports. The 32-year-old man claims he gained 65 pounds over a dozen years because he had to eat several "samples" every day to ensure quality. 'Our kids are still out there,' says heartbroken mom

(NEWSER) - The University of California Board of Regents has quietly paid $4.2 million to settle a dozen lawsuits linked to doctors who stole embryos in an Irvine fertility clinic, reports the Los Angeles Times. The physicians fled the US after it was discovered 14 years ago that they moved eggs and embryos among patients without consent. "I don't think it will ever be over," said former patient Shirel Crawford. "Our children are still out there somewhere." More»

Work by Portinari also missing after quick strike in Brazil

(NEWSER) - Thieves broke into Latin America's foremost museum early yesterday and stole two paintings in a 3-minute heist. They made off with a Picasso portrait and a work by Brazilian painter Candido Portinari from Brazil's São Paulo Museum of Art, the AP reports. The thieves skipped several major works and grabbed only the two canvases, hung far apart, leading police to conclude they were stolen on demand. More»
