(NEWSER) - A video of a Seattle cop hurling a 15-year-old girl to the floor of a holding cell and apparently punching her in the head has been released by prosecutors trying the officer for excessive force. "This case is beyond police misconduct, it's criminal misconduct," said the lead prosecutor. Ozarks boy turns himself in to sheriff's office

(NEWSER) - A teenager in the Arkansas Ozarks turned himself in yesterday saying he had shot his 16-year-old sister, the Southwest Times Record reports. “He came in ... saying he needed to speak with someone because he had killed his sister,” Franklin Sheriff Anthony Boen said of the 15-year-old. Deputies found the sister shot dead in her bedroom, but have not yet revealed a motive in the shooting. “We confiscated several weapons from the home and the vehicle,” Boen said. “He was an avid hunter, and his father was an avid hunter, so they had several guns in the home.” More»

Department promises to review training procedures

(NEWSER) - Seattle police are investigating two teenagers for allegedly assaulting an officer—even though a much-publicized video has surfaced in which said officer punches one of them, 17-year-old Angel Rosenthal, in the face. The incident, caught on the tape above, happened after officer Ian Walsh stopped Rosenthal and three other women for jaywalking. They were “verbally antagonistic towards the officer,” according to the official report, and one, 19-year-old Marilyn Levias, tried walking away. More»

(NEWSER) - Boeing Co. today agreed to buy the manufacturing operations of South Carolina-based Vought Aircraft Industries, a key supplier for its much-delayed 787 Dreamliner, in a deal that’s causing much consternation in Seattle, NPR reports. Boeing has long threatened to leave its production base in Washington state for cheaper pastures, and Vought’s South Carolina plant is surrounded by enough empty land for a full-blown 787 production line. Agents say newly found chute wasn't used by legendary hijacker

(NEWSER) - The FBI says a parachute found along a dirt road in Washington state didn’t belong to legendary hijacker DB Cooper, the AP reports. After talking to parachute experts and examining the site, agents concluded that the chute wasn’t used in the nation’s only unsolved hijacking. Cooper made away with $200,000 when he jumped off the plane in 1971, but investigators doubt he survived the leap. More»
