(NEWSER) - A spate of suicides by workers at a French telecommunications company is prompting a meeting between the firm's CEO and France's labor minister, the BBC reports. Since last year, 23 employees of France Telecom have killed themselves; unions blame tough management practices, but the firm, which was privatized in 1998, maintains that its suicide count is normal for a company with a workforce of 100,000. Boss's visit to videotape plant lasts through the night

(NEWSER) - The CEO of the French arm of Sony was held hostage overnight by laid-off employees at a videotape plant being shut down, the Guardian reports. He was released this morning on the condition that he go directly to talks with trade unionists, who are upset at the size of their severance packages. "He won't listen to us," said a union delegate.
