No more partying, he's been 'suburbanized'

(NEWSER) - Despite the Maori warrior tattoo that still adorns his face, there’s little that seems warrior-like about Mike Tyson these days. In a long New York Times Magazine profile, Daphne Merkin paints a picture of the “suburbanized” Tyson: No gold caps on his teeth, no pet tiger, no nonstop Cristal—he doesn’t even eat meat anymore. Instead, he lives in a nice home in a gated community, where he is in bed by 8pm and wakes early, spending his time reading philosophy and taking care of his homing pigeons . “I’ve learned to live a boring life and love it,” he says, but Merkin notes that Tyson seems to be almost willing himself to lead such a life. Boxers reconcile 12 years after bizarre championship bout

(NEWSER) - Evander Holyfield forgives Mike Tyson for biting his ear during their heavyweight title fight in 1997, he said during a joint appearance with his former opponent on today's Oprah Winfrey Show. The boxers—who knew each other as teens—shook hands, and Holyfield said the famous bite “wasn't really as bad as they made it out to be.” Tyson said in response: "I just want you to know it's been a pleasure passing through life, being acquainted with you." Manuel Garrido says LSD drove Phillip to madness

(NEWSER) - The father of the man accused of kidnapping, raping, and imprisoning Jaycee Dugard says his son was a model youth—until he discovered acid, reports the Los Angeles Times. "Everyone loved him," Manuel Garrido says of Phillip, who played guitar in a band, cracked jokes, and always helped around the house. That changed in his teens. “After he got the LSD pills, he was gone,” says the elder Garrido. “It ruined his life. He did a lot of crazy things after that.” More»
