Burn Victim Gets New Face, Hands

(NEWSER) - A French man who received a groundbreaking face and double hand transplant to repair damage from severe burns has died from a massive infection, reports the Independent. The patient, 30, suffered a heart attack during surgery to battle a super bug invasion in his face. Despite the problem, his body did not reject the transplants, said doctors. Floor caves in at France church popular with Haitian community

(NEWSER) - A 6-year-old child was killed and 32 people were injured when the first floor of a building in France used as a church popular with the Haitian community collapsed during an Easter celebration north of Paris. Surgery called most complex yet

(NEWSER) - A Virginia man who suffered a gun accident has undergone a face transplant at the University of Maryland, and doctors say it's the most extensive such operation yet. The surgery required input from 300 health workers and took more than a day to complete, the Baltimore Sun reports. Doctors used donor skin, teeth, jaw, tongue, and other tissue to reconstruct Richard Lee Norris's face after the patient lost his nose, chin, lips, and teeth in 1997. More»
