(NEWSER) - The mauling victims of a starving polar bear have been airlifted from Norway to Britain for treatment. The bear killed a teenager on a Norway science trip before a team leader managed to kill the animal with a gun that jammed four times. The adult leader, a co-worker, and two other teenagers are all being treated for significant wounds from the marauding animal, which tore through their tent on the Von Postbreen glacier in Svalbard, according to the Guardian . Polar Bear Kills Tourist in Norway

Four others injured in attack

(NEWSER) - A British tourist is dead and four people are seriously injured after a polar bear attacked them today in Norway. The five were part of a group of campers in the Arctic Archipelago of Svalbard, according to a district governor's spokesperson. The group reported the mauling via satellite phone at 7:30am, and "there are no roads in the area of the Von Postbreen glacier where the incident happened so we scrambled a helicopter," the spokesperson says. Famous polar bear will go to Berlin museum

(NEWSER) - Knut spent his life on display in the Berlin Zoo, and in death he'll move to a museum. The famous bear will be stuffed and exhibited in Berlin's Natural History Museum, the New York Post reports, citing the Times of London. Even as veterinarians examined Knut to determine a cause of death, a taxidermist was there to make sure the bear's fur didn't get damaged. More»

Berlin Zoo says he was otherwise fine

(NEWSER) - The mysterious and sudden death of polar bear sensation Knut is mysterious no longer. A necropsy performed yesterday discovered "significant changes to the brain, which can be viewed as a reason for the polar bear's sudden death," the Berlin Zoo announced today. The zoo wouldn't elaborate on what those changes were, but it did say that no changes were found in any other organ; further planned tests include bacteriological and tissue examinations.
